New Eurovent Recommendation on EU Taxonomy

22 April 2025

2 min read

Brussels, 22 April 2025. Eurovent has released a Recommendation on the EU Taxonomy for Sustainable Activities. It provides valuable guidance on navigating the complex landscape of sustainability in alignment with the EU’s Taxonomy Regulation.

The EU Taxonomy for Sustainable Activities is a common reference system that allows one to assess whether economic activities qualify as environmentally sustainable or not. The Taxonomy is set out in Regulation (EU) 2020/852 on the establishment of a framework to facilitate sustainable investment (Taxonomy Regulation for short) and its Delegated Acts (the Climate Delegated Act EU 2021/2139 as amended, and the Environment Delegated Act EU 2023/2486).

With sustainability becoming an increasingly critical priority across industries, Eurovent’s latest recommendation aims to facilitate the transition toward a low-carbon, climate-resilient economy, in line with the European Green Deal and the EU’s ambitious climate objectives. The Recommendation provides clear, practical guidance on how companies in the HVACR sector can assess their activities against the EU Taxonomy criteria.

Eurovent Deputy Secretary General, Stijn Renneboog stated: “Taxonomy criteria are not always clear and unambiguous, and some interpretation is often required. This Eurovent Recommendation clarifies how to interpret the relevant Technical Screening Criteria for HVACR manufacturing activities, which should facilitate Taxonomy assessment and ensure that manufacturers carry out their reporting in a fair and uniform way.”

The Recommendation was prepared by the participants of the Eurovent Task Force ‘Taxonomy and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD)’ (TF-TAXO). The group aims to share information among members and coordinate Eurovent actions to potentially improve, amend, or complement the Taxonomy and its Technical Screening Criteria to better suit and cover the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR) industry.
