On 18 June 2021, UK has published its Statutory Instrument introducing Ecodesign and Energy Labelling requirements for a set of products. Those of relevance for Eurovent are Refrigerating Appliances with a Direct Sales Function and Electric Motors and Variable Speed Drives.

Results of the 2020 consultation published, additional information on Brexit

The UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) ran this consultation in mod 2020. It received input from 18 respondents. Of interest is the overview published on 12 June 2021 that includes future orientations and therefore is of importance to manufacturers operating in or exporting to the UK.

Concrete dates to be announced later in the year

The ongoing COVID-19 outbreak already forced the postponement of the upcoming EUROVENTSUMMIT from September 2020 to October 2021. After carefully evaluating the situation, the organisers have decided that the Summit will be further postponed to 2022.

The UK Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs and the Environment Agency have updated their February 2020 guidance on how to comply with Fluorinated Gas (F-Gas) and Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) regulations from 1 January 2021.

Eurovent Associate Member to elaborate on new compliance regulations for UK market

Eurovent’s Associate Member UL is organising a webinar on the new compliance regulations in relation to Brexit. The event will take place on Wednesday, 21 October 2020, 10:00-11:00h (CEST) and aims to help manufacturers to navigate market access requirements through the Brexit transition. Eurovent members and partners are cordially invited to take part.

In order to prepare for Brexit, the UK government is inviting manufacturers to acquaint themselves with the campaign ‘Keep Business Moving’. It's dedicated website provides information on the actions EU businesses can take to continue trading smoothly with the UK at the end of the year.

Work on updating expected to be finished by the end of 2020

The first Blue Guide was issued in 2000. It provides for a better understanding of EU product rules and aims to support a uniform and coherent application across different sectors and throughout the single market. Even though the Blue Guide is a non-binding document, it is very often referred to for guidance by Member States, the Commission and stakeholders. The update takes into account the legislative developments since its 2016 edition.

Import tariffs are changing from January 2021: Prepare for the UK Global Tariff

The UK Department for International Trade has issued anew a message regarding the new UK import tariffs and trading rules, which will take effect in January 2021. The new UK Global Tariff will replace the EU’s Common External Tariff. These tariffs will be applied if there is no free trade agreement between the UK and the EU by 31 December.

The UK is looking how to integrate, and ambitiously improve the requirements relating to Ecodesign and Energy Labelling. Consultations run until 4 September. The UK has also updated its information campaign relating to the end of the transition period, including information for businesses on importing and exporting.
