Roadmap for the sustainable products initiative

The Commission has started a consultation to prepare the revision of the Ecodesign Framework Directive 2009/125/EC. The revision is announced under the sustainable products initiative and is twofold; including elements of the Circular Economy Action Plan to make products sustainable and an extension of the scope beyond energy-related products. The initial input to the roadmap is awaited by 7 November. Further consultation with a detailed questionnaire should be available in October. The objective is to have Commission draft of the revised Ecodesign Directive available at the end of 2021, in view of adoption in 2022 and most likely implementation in 2024 or 2025.

First Global & Virtual Natural Refrigerants Trade Show to take place on 1 September 2020

Eurovent has partnered up with ATMOsphere / shecco to participate in the first Global Virtual Trade Show of its kind on 1 September 2020. Eurovent has become an official partner of the event and will be present with its own virtual booth. Attendance is free of charge.

Update on the latest European Commission communication regarding Ecodesign and related items

The European Commission has just circulated the draft minutes of the meeting on reparability (5 July 2019) and on the omnibus amendments (4 June 2020). Elements of the former meetings appear in the study for the Working Plan 2020-2024. The Eurovent Product Group ‘Commercial refrigeration Equipment’ (PG-RDC) has already commented on the latter one.

The Filtration and Separation Coalition has been following the discussions and consultations on these chemicals over the past years. They have highlighted their concern in the attached document GEN – 1144.01. To Eurovent it makes sense to consider the possible consequences.

Taxonomy Regulation recognises potential of HVACR sector to contribute to climate change mitigation

Regulation (EU) 2020/852 on the establishment of a framework to facilitate sustainable investment (the so-called Taxonomy Regulation) was officially published. The aim of the Taxonomy Regulation is to boost investment in green projects by setting common definitions across the EU for what investments may be considered ‘green’. Select projects in the HVACR and building sectors will qualify if they meet the technical screening criteria, which are to be defined in delegated acts.

Deputy Secretary General Francesco Scuderi to talk about EU Climate Neutrality Strategy

The Eurovent Association has partnered up with ATMOsphere (shecco) and Danish Technological Institute to support the virtual ATMO/DTI Technical Conference ‘The Future of Air Conditioning’ on 23 and 24 June 2020. Eurovent’s Deputy Secretary General and European refrigeration expert Francesco Scuderi will elaborate on the EU Climate Neutrality Strategy in the Policy Panel on the first day of the conference. Eurovent members receive 15% discount on conference passes.

Update on F-Gas price evolution monitoring by Öko-Recherche

On behalf of the European Commission (DG CLIMA), Öko-Recherche is working on a series of analysis evaluating the implementation of the F-Gas Regulation (EU) No 517/2014 since 2015. This includes, among others, monitoring of the refrigerant prices. The Q1/2020 report has been recently shared with Eurovent.

Stimulus programme should combine recovery and decarbonisation objectives

Eurovent calls for an ambitious EU green recovery package that focuses on renovating the EU ‘s building stock, modernising the energy system, and investing in digitalisation and the circular economy. The next EU budget presents a unique opportunity to reboot the European economy and set it on the track to carbon-neutrality.
