The UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) ran this consultation in mod 2020. It received input from 18 respondents. Of interest is the overview published on 12 June 2021 that includes future orientations and therefore is of importance to manufacturers operating in or exporting to the UK.
With this report, IEA shows how the transition to a net zero energy system would be possible by 2050, while ensuring stable and affordable energy supplies, providing universal energy access and enabling robust economic growth. While the study addresses the energy sector, the chapter on buildings does offer some perspectives.

Eurovent, in cooperation with Eurovent Middle East and Eurovent Certita Certification, will host a dedicated webinar tailor-made for Africa, Middle East, India and Southeast Asia. The webinar will outline the importance of adherence to latest standards in air conditioning and ventilation. Special focus will be placed on the application of the newest air filtration standard ISO 16890, which has replaced EN 779 and other international standards in recent years.
Following the success of the updated Eurovent Recommendation 4/23 – ‘Selection of EN ISO 16890 rated air filter classes for general ventilation applications’, Eurovent has teamed up with ABRAVA (Brazilian Association of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Ventilation) to publish the Brazilian version of the industry recommendation in the Portuguese language. The comprehensive guideline makes full use of the potential EN ISO 16890 offers in terms of Indoor Air Quality.

The IEA is continuing to update its publications. Of note are the Energy Efficiency 2020 and the World Energy Outlook published at the end of 2020. As usual, a lot of interesting documents have been released and while looking at the world at large. The insights can prove useful for companies wishing to enter export markets.
After two events outside Europe (2017 USA, 2019 China), the 11th International Conference on Energy Efficiency in Domestic Appliances and Lighting (EEDAL) conference returns to Europe in 2021. In 2021, EEDAL will be organised jointly with the International Symposium on Science and Technology of Lighting and will take place from 8 to 10 November in Toulouse, France.
The Buildings Performance Institute Europe (BPIE) has assessed the 14 available national/regional Long-Term Renovation Strategies (LTRS), The analysis by BPIE concludes that many Member States still do not seem to prioritise action in the building industry.
The Buildings Performance Institute Europe (BPIE) has published a guidebook outlining the history and past developments leading to todays’ policies together with an outlook on future developments. It represents a valuable introduction to those acquainted and not acquainted with building policies.
The IEA has issued its World Energy Outlook 2020 that also looks at the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis. Its analysis show that in countries in lockdown, the energy demand declined by 18-25% on average. IEA explores a scenario that quantifies the energy impacts of a widespread global recession caused by months-long restrictions on mobility, and social and economic activity. This results in a 6% energy demand contraction - the largest one in 70 years in percentage terms and the largest ever in absolute terms. The impact of COVID-19 on energy demand in 2020 would be more than seven times larger than the impact of the 2008 financial crisis.
