On 13 October, the European Commission provided an analysis of the recent sharp increase in energy prices and announced in a communication; the publishing of a Factsheet Toolbox for action and support that contains short and medium-term measures that can be implemented by the EU Member States to address the situation.

The European Commission has released the 2021 pocketbook consisting of data up to the year 2020. Whereas the first pocketbooks elaborated mainly on energy figures, the 2021 version also covers socio-economic indicators and the impact of the energy sector on the environment. The International Energy Agency has released on 13 October its annual World Energy Outlook in time for the COP26 meetings.

Annual meeting 2021 online as in 2020

In 1991 Eurovent, together with the American, Canadian and Japanese associations founded ICARHMA, the International Council of Air-Conditioning, Refrigeration, and Heating Manufacturers Associations. Meanwhile the membership has increased to eleven members covering many parts of the world. ICARHMA allows the association to discuss global issues related to energy and environmental related issues.

Energy and environmental targets to grow as number of buildings expands

The Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC) was set up as a voluntary partnership in 2015 during the 21st Conference of Parties (COP21). It involves 30+ countries and 100+ members with different backgrounds and fits within the United Nations Environment Programme. The aim is to work towards a zero-emission, efficient, and resilient buildings and construction sector.

Commission recommendation and guidelines published

On 28 September the Commission published its 7-page recommendation on Energy Efficiency First: from principles to practice together with a 59-page annex with guidelines and examples for its implementation in decision-making in the energy sector and beyond. 

Exchange on the study to take place on 15 November
