Public consultation by Commission and by Trinomics until 09 June 2021

The Sustainable Products Initiative (SPI) is a key part of the new Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP), one of the main flagships of the European Green Deal, and a pillar of the New Industrial Strategy for Europe. Through the public consultation, the Commission and Trinomics are gathering opinions from the public and stakeholders on the main policy options for a proposal of a Sustainable Products Directive that might be published still before the end of 2021.

Call for papers until 14 November 2021

After two events outside Europe (2017 USA, 2019 China), the 11th International Conference on Energy Efficiency in Domestic Appliances and Lighting (EEDAL) conference returns to Europe in 2021. The pandemic has obliged EEDAL to move its conference from November 2021 to June 2022. It would offer an opportunity to address Indoor Environmental Quality for a public that involves policy makers.

The study for the Working Plan 2020-2024 ran from March 2020 until April 2021. The final reports and the minutes of the 2nd and last stakeholder meeting held on 26 March 2021 have also been published on the project website. Note that a consultation on the related Roadmap is open until 2 June 2021 (see GEN – 1236.00).

Document not available but submitted to Member States for comments until 31 May

On 3 May, the European Commission submitted to Member States representatives under the ‘comitology’ procedure a ‘Commission decision on a sectoral reference document on best environmental management practices, environmental performance indicators and benchmarks of excellence for the fabricated metal products manufacturing sector’. Eurovent has requested access to this draft and would receive this by 7 June at latest.

Monthly overview for members on recent developments

On a monthly basis, the Eurovent Team compiles a global overview of the latest developments concerning new standardisation activities and technical regulations of relevance for the HVACR industry. Our Notifications allow members to be prepared for developments that can have an impact on them and their products.

Published Roadmap open for feedback until 2 June 2021

The Commission has submitted the Roadmap for feedback within 4 weeks. After this period, a dedicated meeting of the Consultation Forum will be organised to discuss the preparation of the Working Plan. It is expected that the Working Plan could be published as a Communication in the third quarter of 2021. Of the possible new items listed two may be relevant to Eurovent: swimming pool heaters and industrial sensors. Relevant to all members will be horizontal measures relating to lightweight design, recycled content, ecological profile, durability, firmware and software, scarce and critical raw materials. While looking at the Working Plan, the consultation on the Sustainable Products Initiative should be kept in mind.

Senior Director, Manufacturing and Operations at Systemair succeeds Naci Sahin

During the 65th General Assembly, which was held online, the Eurovent members have elected Raul Corredera Haener (Systemair, Spain) as President of the Association. He succeeds Naci Sahin (FRITERM, Turkey), who was Eurovent President since 2018.

Set of stakeholder workshops running in parallel with the Public Consultation

The review of the EPBD started with a Roadmap/Inception Impact Assessment that could be commented upon until 22 March 2021. Since then, a Public Consultation has been launched that runs until 22 June 2022. The Commission has also tasked the consultant Trinomics to gather stakeholder views through hosting stakeholder workshops.

Hannover Messe Sodeks Fuarcilik A.S, the organiser of the leading Turkish industry exhibition, has announced its 2020 HVACR sector statistics. The exhibition will take place from 29 September to 02 October 2021 in Istanbul, Turkey. It will be one of the first face-to-face HVACR industry events following the COVID-19 pandemic.

COVID-19 safety measures extended to 31 July 2021

In order to safeguard the health and wellbeing of Eurovent members and partners during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to provide for certainty regarding planned meetings, it has been decided to continue hosting all Eurovent meetings virtually until 31 July 2021. Further updates will be communicated to members in due time.
