Eurovent Recommendation 4/23 constitutes a comprehensive guideline, which supports a swift transition away from EN 779 while making full use of potential EN ISO 16890 offers in terms of Indoor Air Quality

Brussels, 14 December 2017. The Eurovent Association has officially released the first edition of its long-awaited code of good practice Eurovent 4/23 (2017) on the “Selection of EN ISO 16890 rated air filter classes for general ventilation applications”. The publication is addressed to all HVAC professionals dealing with ventilation systems, particularly design consultants, facility managers and manufacturers of equipment incorporating air filters. It was jointly developed by participants of the Product Group ‘Air Filters’ (PG-FIL).

Evolving industry views and proposal on cascading regulations (formerly: double regulation)

In 2015, the European Commission paper on ‘Ecodesign for energy-related products integrated into other energy-related products’ was discussed during a Consultation Forum. It provides for an interpretation and could serve as basis for further discussion. Throughout the past two years, industry views and proposals have evolved. Recently, some associations have re-entered discussions on this subject and propose a distinction between ‘bespoke’ and ‘catalogue’ products. Eurovent members are asked to critically reflect on this subject and to share their views with the Secretariat.

How the Commission tries to push forward standardisation work

Several consultants have been contracted by the European Commission to follow the work of CEN/CENELEC Technical Committees and their Working Groups in the field of ecodesign and energy labelling. The consultants contracted by the EC have been able to attend the CEN/CENELEC TC and Working group meetings since 2014. The EC has recently updated the consultants’ list. The European team has assessed the recent proposal of the Council Presidency

The Council Presidency has been busy developing compromise proposals for the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). The 4th and most recent one dates 16 May 2016. This text gives an indication where the final compromise could move to. The Eurovent Secretariat has assessed the compromise proposal.

Since the release of Clean Energy Package for all Europeans the Parliament Committees EPBD rapporteur Bendt Bendtsen (ITRE, appointed on 25 January 2017) and Jäätteenmäke Anneli (ENVI, appointed on 20 February 2017) have been very fast in preparing their draft report and draft opinion. These reports will be discussed on 29 May and adoption would take place the third quarter of 2017.
