Australia: The date of introduction of new energy efficiency requirements for relevant air conditioners over 65kW under the new Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (Air Conditioners above 65kW) Determination is set on 1 October 2022.

Last week, the energy ministers adopted the Council’s negotiating positions (general approaches) on the Renewable Energy Directive and the Energy Efficiency Directive based on the compromise texts prepared by the French Presidency and Germany’s amendment on the EED.

The revision fits within the current Ecodesign Framework Directive 2009/125, and it looks to update the environmental data sets for the EcoReportTool. It also considers the possibility to include material efficiency aspects and of environmental footprint/ecological profile aspects. 

As expected in the previous update (GEN 1381.00) the Life Calls for proposals 2022 now includes a call to set up this compliance support facility.

An overview of the past 2014-2022 developments were presented during the consultation forum, and a first discussion on the draft working document took place. The Commission integrated the comments made during the meeting and awaits further written comments by 29 April 2022.

The review of Regulation (EU) 327/2011 started in 2014 but after the first Consultation Forum in 2015, the process suffered a significant delay due to concerns raised about cascading and large fans. The next Consultation Forum takes places on 1 April 2022.

The European Commission has asked a consortium to develop an EU-wide whole life carbon roadmap to outline how all building-related emissions can be mitigated by 2050.  A kick-off webinar is hosted on 8 March 2022.

On 16 December 2021 the Commission issued a recommendation on the use of the Environmental Footprint methods to measure and communicate the life cycle environmental performance of products and organisations.

In 2020 the Commission stopped the informal practice of sharing Inter-Service-Consultation (ISC) Working Documents with the members of the Consultation Forum. In March 2021, twelve associations, including Eurovent, requested the Commission to re-introduce and maintain this informal practice.
