Federal Government requires hygienic operation of plants and sets specific requirements

The Bundesrat of Germany (Federal Council) voted, on 2 June, on a new national regulation on evaporative cooling systems, cooling towers and wet separation systems. It will soon be published in Germany’s Federal Law Gazette and is to come into force four weeks later. Operators of cooling towers then receive one year time to notify national authorities on existing plants and to fulfil three major obligations.

The European Commission services together with stakeholders have recently produced guidelines to assist in the smooth and level application of the Directive 2014/35/EU. The Directive became applicable on 20 April 2016. The guidelines explain in an easy and understandable way the elements of the Directive.

The new Gas Appliances Regulation has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OEJU) on 31 March 2016. This regulation will be applicable from 21 April 2018.

The European Parliament has adopted report on the Gas Appliances Regulation by MEP Catherine Stihler. The move towards Regulations rather than Directives when dealing with products and provides additional supports for the Single Market.
