Final report from study consultant published on future of Ecodesign in the UK

The final study report on the future of UK Energy-related Product Policy was published on 27 July. The aim of the study was to identify potential product groups and product design aspects for future regulation in the UK. The shortlisted product groups include many HVACR products and mostly (still) reflect the parallel priorities of the EU under Ecodesign.

Draft minutes of Consultation Forum on air conditioners and local space heaters and working documents for the revision of Regulations (EU) 811/2013 and (EU) 813/2013 shared by the EC

The EC has shared the draft minutes of the Consultation Forum on Air Conditioners and local space heaters and the Working Documents for the Revision of Regulations (EU) 811/213, (EU) 813/213, (EU) 812/213, (EU) 814/213 to be addressed at the upcoming Consultation Forum on 27/28 September 2021.

The Consultation Forum provided for information on work streams and the priorities that would apply until 2024. The recommendations of the preparatory study for the Working Plan were discussed.

Requirements for (inter alia) Refrigerating Appliances with a Direct Sales Function and Electric Motors and Variable Speed Drives

On 18 June 2021, UK has published its Statutory Instrument introducing Ecodesign and Energy Labelling requirements for a set of products. Those of relevance for Eurovent are Refrigerating Appliances with a Direct Sales Function and Electric Motors and Variable Speed Drives.

The stakeholder meeting to present and discuss findings of the technical assistance study for ensuring optimal performance of Technical Building Systems under the EPBD was held on 01 July 2021. The objective of the study is to develop guidance for Member States aimed at supporting the effective establishment and enforcement of Articles 8(1), 8(9) on system requirements for Technical Building Systems, and Articles 14(4) and 15(4) on the automation and control systems for heating and air conditioning systems of the EPBD Directive. According to estimates, the total energy saving potential in the EU due to correctly implemented system performance requirements for TBS ranges from 14% to 31%. The largest saving potential is related to space heating, but space cooling and ventilation are also of high relevance.

The revision fits within the current Ecodesign Framework Directive 2009/125. It is the first update since 2013 and, while not linked to the separate Sustainable Policy Initiative, the revision will look to update the environmental data sets for the EcoReportTool and consider the possibility to include material efficiency aspects and of environmental footprint/ecological profile aspects.
