GEN - 937.00. In each ClimaNovela edition throughout the summer, Eurovent Board and senior staff members are going to answer a question concerning the state of the European industry, technological evolutions, digitisation, the upcoming Eurovent Summit in Seville or other issues of relevance. Our third one goes to our President Naci Sahin: Which importance does the certification of HVAC products and equipment have? Which role does Eurovent play in this respect?
Naci Sahin has been elected as President of the Eurovent Association during its Annual Meeting in Oslo at the end of May. The MD of the Turkish company FRITERM has been member of the Eurovent Board of Directors since 2011 and succeeded Alex Rasmussen. Sahin used to be President of Eurovent’s Turkish member association ISKID from 2013 to 2014 and has been playing a leading role in shaping the internationalisation of the Turkish HVACR industry over the past decades.
ClimaNovela: Which importance does the certification of HVAC products and equipment have? Which role does Eurovent play in this respect?
Naci Sahin: At the beginning of the 1990s, our members have decided to set up ‘Eurovent Certified Performance’ schemes for various HVACR products to ensure a European-wide level-playing field. This became necessary due to a lack of regulation at the time, and the lack of comparability of products and performance values given by manufacturers.
Over the past decades, ‘Eurovent Certified Performance’ has evolved into the leading certification scheme for HVACR products in Europe and is a recognised and trusted brand all over the world. This also applies to my home country Turkey, where the Eurovent Certification schemes are well recognised and applied. The certification schemes are essential as they ensure that the catalogue values of manufacturers are verified by an independent third-party through laboratory tests, audits, and the selection software. Even with the introduction of the Ecodesign programmes, certification remains of highest importance as the publication of values required by Ecodesign and Energy Labelling are self-declared.
To comply with strictest accreditation requirements, all certification programmes are managed independently from our Association by our daughter company Eurovent Certita Certification (ECC) in Paris. Being a member of the Eurovent Association is not a prerequisite to be certified and vice-versa. ECC today runs close to 50 certification programmes and is globally known for the ‘Eurovent Certified Performance’ quality mark.
Same as at our Association, also our colleagues at Eurovent Certita Certification think ahead and push the market to aim for the highest level. All tests provide energy classes, whose levels can rise year after year. This is a truly unique feature.
In the same way, ECC has recently launched its new NEx Nature of Excellence system, which is a new scheme assessing not only energy efficiency, but a wide range of other aspects such as quality, sustainability, recyclability, and operations.
During the EUROVENTSUMMIT 2018 in Seville, people receive an in-depth introduction to all these subjects.
