Survey and questionnaire on PFAS until 19 September 2021

Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Sweden and Norway have introduced a request to consider a restriction on manufacture, placing on the market and use of PFAS. PFAS are substances that are present in various refrigerants.

Chairman of Eurovent PG-ERC passed away on 07 July 2021

Mr Peter Müller is sadly no longer with us. The Chairman of the Eurovent Product Group ‘Energy Recovery Components’ suddenly passed away on 07 July 2021 at the age of 53. Peter was an active contributor to the Eurovent activities for many years and one of the leading European experts in the field of energy recovery.

Commission adopted acts open for feedback until 10 September 2021

Both acts have been released within the context of the Fit for 55 package to deliver the Green Deal and reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 55% in 2030 on the path towards the 2050 climate neutrality ambitions. Both acts and their supporting documents are now open for feedback until 10 September.

The EUPCN has meanwhile developed its Work Programme 2021-2022. In 13 pages, the 18 tasks that the EUPCN shall cover, are presented.

Some calls of note for the HVACR industry

The first LIFE Call for proposals opened under the new LIFE programme 2021-2027, which comprises four sub-programmes: nature & biodiversity, circular economy and quality of life, climate change mitigation and adaptation and the clean energy transition.

The Consultation Forum provided for information on work streams and the priorities that would apply until 2024. The recommendations of the preparatory study for the Working Plan were discussed.

The Commission DG Energy has commissioned both studies to assess the renewable aspects of space heating and cooling. The insights from the studies should serve as input for policies aimed at increasing the share of renewables in heating and cooling, including methodologies for accounting these shares. For cooling, the Commission aims to adopt by the end of 2021 a delegated act establishing a methodology for calculating the quantity of renewable energy used for cooling and district cooling.

Monthly overview for members on recent developments

On a monthly basis, the Eurovent Team compiles a global overview of the latest developments concerning new standardisation activities, technical regulations and legislative developments of relevance for the HVACR industry. This information allows members to be prepared for developments that can have an impact on them and their products.

The stakeholder meeting to present and discuss findings of the technical assistance study for ensuring optimal performance of Technical Building Systems under the EPBD was held on 01 July 2021. The objective of the study is to develop guidance for Member States aimed at supporting the effective establishment and enforcement of Articles 8(1), 8(9) on system requirements for Technical Building Systems, and Articles 14(4) and 15(4) on the automation and control systems for heating and air conditioning systems of the EPBD Directive. According to estimates, the total energy saving potential in the EU due to correctly implemented system performance requirements for TBS ranges from 14% to 31%. The largest saving potential is related to space heating, but space cooling and ventilation are also of high relevance.
