Conference Speakers

Simon Jones (Moderator)

Simon is the founder of Air Quality Matters, a consulting practice for ventilation and air quality in the built environment. He is a passionate advocate for better standards and outcomes in the sector, especially around air quality, ventilation and health. Simon hosts the Air Quality Matters podcast, where he talks to leaders across the world and across sectors to discuss one of the most important environmental risks we face – the quality of the air we breathe.

Sani Dimitroulopoulou

Sani Dimitroulopoulou, Principal Environmental Public Health Specialist on Indoor Environments at the United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA). She will present on the UKHSA literature review which focuses on the impacts and benefits of indoor environmental quality (IEQ) in educational buildings, like schools and universities.

Sani has published peer-reviewed papers in international scientific journals and conferences and more than 45 technical research and consulting reports which focused on exposure assessment to air pollution, based on modelling and monitoring of indoor and outdoor air pollution and ventilation.

Duncan Grassie

Duncan Grassie is the Environmental Public Health Scientist at the United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA). He will give a presentation on the UKHSA literature review which focuses on the impacts and benefits of indoor environmental quality (IEQ) in educational buildings, like schools and universities.

Duncan is responsible for building the evidence base and developing modelling of the effect of the built environment on Indoor Air Quality within UKHSA’s Air Quality and Public Health team.

Kaja Milczewska

Kaja Milczewska is the Environmental Public Health Scientist at the United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA). She will give a presentation on the UKHSA literature review.

Kaja has gained interest in various aspects of indoor environmental quality including modelling exposure to volatile organic compounds in homes, damp and mould. She has an academic background in atmospheric science and holds a PhD on the topic of improving the accuracy of regional air quality forecasts through addressing errors in meteorological models.

Catherine Noakes

Catherine Noakes is Professor of Environmental Engineering for Buildings at the University of Leeds, where she leads research into ventilation, indoor air quality and infection control in the built environment. She notably specialises in airborne infections and the transport of airborne pathogens. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she served on the Government of the United Kingdom Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE).

Henry Burridge

Henry Burridge is a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Fluid Mechanics at Imperial College London – with research expertise in indoor environment & air quality. He leads the Schools’ Air quality Monitoring for Health and Education initiative, SAMHE.

He will provide an overview of the SAMHE project, which collects and analyses air quality monitoring data from more than 600 schools across the UK, including on ventilation rates and indoor pollution levels.

Pawel Wargocki

Pawel Wargocki is a professor at the Technical University of Denmark and an expert in Indoor Air Quality and environmental psychology. He is an ISIAQ, REHVA, and ASHRAE Fellow and a mechanical engineer by profession. He will give a presentation titled ‘What we know and should know about classroom air quality, ventilation, and thermal environment in relation to learning and monitoring.’

Corinne Mandin

Corinne Mandin is an Environmental Health Researcher. She will give a presentation titled ‘Indoor air quality in French schools: 15 years of research to improve knowledge’.

Corinne has been working on human exposure to chemical substances and physical agents and the related health effects. She coordinated the French Indoor Air Quality Observatory, a public research program created in 2001 to carry out nationwide surveys on air quality in buildings.

Rosamund Adoo-Kissi-Debrah

Rosamund is the founder, director, and trustee of the Ella Roberta Foundation. She is one of the most prominent advocates for clean air worldwide, a powerful voice in the air pollution debate. She started campaigning as soon as she realised its role in her daughter Ella’s death, from a fatal asthma attack linked to air pollution.

Adam Taylor

Adam Taylor is the CEO of ARM Environments and chair of the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) group of the Building Engineering Services Association (BESA). During the IAQmatters conference, he will give a presentation titled ‘Teachers’ attitude to IAQ, and installation and maintenance concerns.’

Ali Nour Eddine

Ali Nour Eddine is the Technical Manager of Eurovent Certification. He holds a degree in mechanical engineering and a PhD in energy, thermals, and combustion. His work experience includes manufacturers, research institutions and higher education institutions. He started his career in the design of HVAC systems in commercial and industrial buildings. Ali has spent over 8 years in the research and development in the sustainable energy field and teaching thermodynamics subjects in higher education institutions.
